Morning all.

Brett Carr - 17-05-2022 08:59:24
Is that noise supposed to be bird song

Marco Schmidt - 17-05-2022 08:59:37

@Brett - yes it is :)

Kurt Kayser - 17-05-2022 09:00:04
sounds like an old harddisk with bearing problems...

Elvis Daniel Velea - 17-05-2022 09:01:40

Matthäus Wander - 17-05-2022 09:03:34

Good morning

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 17-05-2022 09:06:33
yes the sun is shining and the birds are chirping and the construction of new interstellar superhighway is about to begin

Daniel Karrenberg - 17-05-2022 09:24:35
good morning, the birds are chirping here as well and my flow test is still negative, so i might make it to berlin after all, now let's find a seat on a train ....

Daniel Karrenberg - 17-05-2022 09:26:51
beate thought the sound was a tram going through a tight bend and not birdsong ;-) ....

Jan Zorz - 17-05-2022 09:31:25
:)

Jan Zorz - 17-05-2022 09:31:39
Looking forward to see you here :)

Kurt Kayser - 17-05-2022 09:34:35
that sounds like full elimination of L2 networks. There is no more need for broadcast-domains. Everyhost is connected with a /127 route

Radu-Adrian Feurdean - 17-05-2022 09:35:56
Hi everyone

Marco Schmidt - 17-05-2022 09:37:30
@Kurt I'm not sure if you want to have your comment read out to the audience. If yes, please write it in the Q&A panel (icon with question mark) or ask your question using audio. Thank you!

Kurt Kayser - 17-05-2022 09:38:45
@Marco: it was not a question, just thinking loud :-)

Kurt Kayser - 17-05-2022 09:39:13
Maybe we should organize a BoF about "how to microsegment correctly" ?

Daniel Karrenberg - 17-05-2022 09:40:10
@kurt: exchanging operational experience is alway fun and adds value! .... even for local (area) networks.

Sankalp Basavaraj - 17-05-2022 09:40:37
@kurt....I'd love to have that session. A 1-day workshop on how to microsegment !

Brett Carr - 17-05-2022 09:41:55
I think this is what NSX-T effectively does (We are just looking at deploying this)

Kurt Kayser - 17-05-2022 09:42:33
@Brett I am pretty sure, that many do it, but in lots of variants and some work better in certain environments than others.

Brett Carr - 17-05-2022 09:42:59
Indeed many options are available :)

Kurt Kayser - 17-05-2022 09:43:27
The associated security implications are the interesting that sometimes gets noticed too late and then it's very difficult to change (again)

Kurt Kayser - 17-05-2022 09:43:49
interersting part..

Elvis Daniel Velea - 17-05-2022 09:49:20
oups, asked too late :)

Jan Zorz - 17-05-2022 09:50:29
sorry

Marco Schmidt - 17-05-2022 09:51:51
@Elvis - maybe ask Christian directly (hello [at] inter [dot] link)

Geoff Huston - 17-05-2022 09:57:44
I own that prefix!

Elvis Daniel Velea - 17-05-2022 09:58:11
thank you Marco

Kurt Kayser - 17-05-2022 10:00:25
reminder: choose your DNS-resolver IPs wisely :-)

Geoff Huston - 17-05-2022 10:02:10
I apologies for not being on the ball back in 2004 - we should've reserved 2001:doco::/32 instead!

Daniel Karrenberg - 17-05-2022 10:03:51
@geoff: ;-)

Gordon Gidofalvy - 17-05-2022 10:04:22
A brief reminder to those who use DoD IP space: the US govt has a mandate to sell off their absurdly large v4 space and transition to using v6 by mid-2020s. Use at your own peril :)

Geoff Huston - 17-05-2022 10:04:43
The US DOD started advertising its space last year

Elvis Daniel Velea - 17-05-2022 10:06:01
@geoff: any plans to release 1.2.3.0/24 for documentation purposes? :))

Geoff Huston - 17-05-2022 10:06:09
none

Elvis Daniel Velea - 17-05-2022 10:06:14
hehehe

Vladislav Bidikov - 17-05-2022 10:06:18
:)

Daniel Karrenberg - 17-05-2022 10:06:21
@gordon: you beat me to it while i was composing a much more sarcastic version of this ;-) ;-) ;-)

Geoff Huston - 17-05-2022 10:07:03
That prefix got stranded in some intricacies of the APNIC policy process and the effort to yank it out of that state is Just Too Hard! :-)

Kurt Kayser - 17-05-2022 10:07:39
Maybe it would be good for newcomers to briefly tell, what BIRD does?

Daniel Karrenberg - 17-05-2022 10:07:46
have seat, will travel

Geoff Huston - 17-05-2022 10:07:48
About the US DoD space: At the end of 2021 AS749 originates more IPv4 addresses than any other network, namely some 211,581,184 addresses, or the equivalent of a /4.34 in prefix length notation, or some 5% of the total IPv4 address pool.

Ruben van Staveren - 17-05-2022 10:16:19
thx for supporting BSD

Daniel Karrenberg - 17-05-2022 10:18:27
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 17-05-2022 10:19:36
>< >< >< >< >< >< (for ipv6)

Kurt Kayser - 17-05-2022 10:25:32
@NCC the video quality is really low. The bandwith says 170-250kbps which is very very little... is there a way to bump it up to around 400-500kbps - which would make a big difference in visual quality?

Marco Schmidt - 17-05-2022 10:25:32
This session has now ended. The next session is Plenary II and it will start at 11:00. More info on the RIPE 84 meeting plan: https://ripe84.ripe.net/programme/meeting-plan/
