An event in Berlin in May , where we could introduce RIPE community (again) https://re-publica.com/en#rp-festival-11

Daniel Karrenberg - 16-05-2022 18:39:56
I am doing it. But a single person cannot do that structurally!

Glad to hear that security is important, there was just relatively little discussion about it until now which is why I wanted to bring it up.

Daniel Karrenberg - 16-05-2022 18:56:58
Answer to Adrian: Security is like motherhood and apple pie. It is hard to say no to the general question. The devil however is in the detail. Security of what systemat at what level and with what goal exactly? There are some 'security' proposals that are not progress.

Daniel Karrenberg - 16-05-2022 19:02:13
RΓΌdiger is right. Security is not trivial even in a limited and specific area. It is not easy and it often has significant costs and those costs are often not attributed to those who reap the benefits of added security.

Vesna Manojlovic - 16-05-2022 19:02:31
I find the low-power-consumption important, and reusing old equipment : as a practical implementation of β€œenvironmental sustainability β€œ principle .

Adrian Perrig - 16-05-2022 19:02:36
Hi Daniel! A specific point of progress is to rely more on (and perhaps even require) verification of properties / protocols / architectures, so that we can achieve guarantees. Even a simple dependency analysis goes a long way ... which would be nice to have for today's Internet. In SCION, we made much progress and improved the security when working on formal verification and dependency analysis. I was hoping to hear more points from the community that this is indeed a desirable approach.

Daniel Karrenberg - 16-05-2022 19:06:03
Adrian: I like the general direction of that work. I was hoping your group would keep packaging (information about) it for operators in the RIPE community and generating interest or constructive critissim.

Daniel Karrenberg - 16-05-2022 19:08:18
In other words there is still not enough knowledge/discussion in RIPE to discuss your approach. I know this takes energy. You will not get substantial answers unless you spend that energy.

Daniel Karrenberg - 16-05-2022 19:08:46
Again: Personally I like this work.

Marco Schmidt - 16-05-2022 19:09:40
